La Otra Senda ("the other path") is a round trip: ancient music from here and there, intertwined to form a unique route made up of sounds from different origins and places; an amalgam of flavours and nuances for the ear and for the imagination; a fusion of very different cultures, eras and sounds, married in a perfect relationship.
As interpreters of ancient music we have learned to recreate music from distant times following historically-informed criteria. However, it is impossible for us to know how it really sounded. We wish to explore the pieces from a freer and more creative approach, from what we are and feel, rather than from "how they should be". This allows us to play with improvisation and even giving us the opportunity to re-compose… practices that were very common in the past. Yes, our route will showcase a wide variety of ancient music, however, don't be surprised if you'll encounter also jazz bass, flamenco twist, or modern rhythms: they are also part of who we are.
Mexico, Peru, Moldova, the Philippines, medieval, baroque, renaissance…we invite you to travel "the other path" -- our path, and accompany us on this musical journey through different times and parts of the world. We also hope you will make this journey your own personal voyage. Let's enjoy the road and discover what the music has in store for us!
